The Nigeria Customs Service has warned the public about a fraudulent social media account falsely claiming to conduct vehicle auctions on behalf of the agency.
In a statement released via its official X handle on Monday, the Service disowned the claims, describing them as a scam aimed at defrauding unsuspecting Nigerians.
According to the agency, the officer whose image is being used by the impersonators is not involved in any car sales on social media, stressing that the account is fake and part of a deliberate attempt to mislead the public.
The NCS urged Nigerians to disregard such messages and avoid making payments to individuals or platforms posing as officials of the Service.
It further advised members of the public to report suspicious accounts for necessary action, warning that fraudsters are increasingly exploiting interest in auctioned or seized vehicles to lure victims.
The Service reiterated that all official communications and auction processes are carried out strictly through its verified channels, urging the public to rely only on authentic sources for accurate information.
