The Sagamu Magistrate Court in Ogun State has adjourned the trial of Adeniyi Kayode, the 46-year-old driver involved in a fatal road accident that claimed the lives of Anthony Joshua’s personal trainer, Latif Ayodele, and his strength and conditioning coach, Sina Ghami, to February 25, 2026.
The adjournment followed an application by the prosecuting counsel, Richard Nigiwe, who told the court that although four witnesses were listed, only three were present in court. He requested more time to duplicate the case file and forward it to the Office of the Attorney General through the Department of Public Prosecution (DPP) for legal advice.
The defence counsel, Olalekan Abiodun, opposed the application, arguing that the prosecution had sufficient time before the hearing date to complete the necessary documentation.
In her ruling, the magistrate held that the adjournment was in the interest of justice and granted the request, directing the prosecution to duplicate the case file and submit it to the Attorney General’s office for advice from the DPP ahead of the next hearing.
Speaking to journalists after the proceedings, Abiodun said he agreed with the court’s decision, while the prosecuting counsel declined to comment.
The case stems from a road traffic accident that occurred on December 29, 2025, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. According to reports, the crash was allegedly caused by excessive speed and wrongful overtaking.
Kayode is facing four counts, including dangerous driving causing death, reckless and negligent driving, driving without due care and attention, and driving without a valid national driver’s license. He had earlier been granted bail in the sum of ₦5 million with two sureties.
