The Chief Justice of Nigeria, , has sworn in 14 new judges of the .
The swearing-in followed the recommendation of the judges by the (NJC) after its 110th meeting held on January 13 and 14. The council subsequently forwarded the names to President for appointment.
Among those sworn in are Suleiman Hassan, the Chief Registrar of the Federal High Court, and Onuegbu Chioma, Director of Legal Services at the Federal Ministry of Justice.
Addressing the newly appointed judges, Justice Kekere-Ekun described their emergence as the outcome of one of the most rigorous, transparent, and technology-driven judicial selection processes in the country’s history.
She urged them to remain focused on their constitutional responsibilities, cautioning against being swayed by public praise or criticism. The Chief Justice emphasised that their judgments must be clear and well-reasoned, their conduct beyond reproach, and their courtrooms orderly at all times.
The NJC’s Deputy Director of Information, Kemi Babalola-Ogedengbe, had earlier disclosed in a statement in Abuja that the recommendations were made during the council’s 110th meeting presided over by the Chief Justice.
The appointment of the new judges is expected to strengthen the capacity of the Federal High Court in the discharge of its judicial functions nationwide.
