China and Nigeria have moved to strengthen cultural and people to people relations through expanded cooperation in film, literature and media.
The Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, disclosed this in a statement shared on his X handle on Friday after attending the China Nigeria Film and Literature Symposium and the signing ceremony of a cooperation agreement between China Movie Channel and the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).
The event, held at the Chinese Cultural Centre in Nigeria, brought together stakeholders from the cultural, literary, film and media sectors of both countries.
Yu said the collaboration would provide a platform for China and Nigeria to expand cultural exchanges, deepen mutual understanding and strengthen relations between their peoples.
“Film and literature transcend borders and connect hearts,” the ambassador said.
He described the symposium and cooperation agreement as an important step towards implementing the Global Civilization Initiative through stronger cultural engagement between the two countries.
“Today’s event is an important and meaningful step in putting the Global Civilization Initiative into practice,” he stated.
According to Yu, increased exchanges in film, literature and media would encourage mutual learning between Chinese and Nigerian cultures while fostering stronger people to people connections.
“By deepening exchanges in film, literature and media, we can further promote mutual learning between Chinese and Nigerian civilizations, strengthen people-to-people bonds, and contribute to an even closer and stronger China-Nigeria friendship,” he added.
The newly signed cooperation agreement between China Movie Channel and NTA is expected to expand collaboration in film and television production and create additional opportunities for cultural exchange and media cooperation.
The initiative forms part of broader efforts by China and Nigeria to deepen bilateral relations beyond trade and economic cooperation through cultural and people to people engagements.
