A tragic incident occurred on Saturday at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, Ogun State, where a 35-year-old zoo worker, Babaji Daule, was killed by a lion. The Ogun State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday.
According to the command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, the lion handler, originally from Bauchi State, had forgotten to properly secure the locks and barricades to the lion’s enclosure before approaching the cage to feed the animal. This mistake allowed the lion to escape and launch a fatal attack on Daule, inflicting severe injuries to his neck.
Despite efforts to save him, Daule succumbed to his injuries. His body was later taken to the mortuary at Ijaye General Hospital, while the lion was shot to release its grip on the victim.
Further details on the incident are expected to be released soon.
