Following the intervention of President Muhammadu Buhari in the ensuing crisis within the leadership echelon of the University of Lagos, the Senate of the institution met on August 24, to appoint an Acting VC-designate.

The newly appointed Acting VC is Professor Folasade Ogundipe. She polled the majority vote in an election attended by 167 professors.

Folasade Tolulope Ogunsola (New Mabogunje) is a professor of medical microbiology. Born 1958, and educated at the then University of Ife, for her Bachelor’s degree, College of Medicine, Unilag (Masters in Medical microbiology) and College of Medicine, University of Wales, Cardiff, (Doctor of Philosophy in Medical microbiology), Professor Ogunsola specializes in disease control, particularly HIV/AIDS. Ogunsola is also the immediate past provost of College of Medicine, University of Lagos and is reputed as being the first woman to occupy the position. Prior to her election, she was the Deputy Vice Chancellor (development services) of the institution since 2017.
