Ibadan, Nigeria – The remains of Sheikh Muyideen Bello, the renowned Islamic cleric and preacher, were laid to rest this evening in his hometown of Ibadan, marking the end of a remarkable era in the propagation of the Islamic faith in Nigeria.
The revered cleric, known for his eloquence, deep knowledge of Islam, and unwavering dedication to spreading the faith, passed away yesterday, sending shockwaves through the Muslim community and beyond.
Thousands of mourners, including prominent Islamic scholars, political leaders, and devotees from across the nation, gathered at the burial site to pay their final respects. The funeral prayer, conducted at the Central Mosque in Ibadan, was led by distinguished Islamic leaders and attended by an overwhelming crowd, reflecting the profound impact Sheikh Bello had on the lives of many.
Sheikh Bello’s sermons, often broadcast across Nigeria and beyond, were celebrated for their clarity, wisdom, and emphasis on moral rectitude and social justice. Over the decades, he became a beacon of hope and guidance for Muslims, particularly the youth, urging them to uphold the tenets of Islam and contribute positively to society.
In his tribute, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, described Sheikh Bello as “a tireless servant of Allah whose life was a testament to faith, scholarship, and compassion.”
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State also expressed his condolences, calling the cleric “a unifying figure and a guiding light in our diverse nation.”
As the sun set over Ibadan, the cleric was interred amidst an outpouring of grief and prayers. His legacy, however, lives on through his teachings, countless disciples, and the institutions he supported in fostering Islamic education and community development.
The passing of Sheikh Muyideen Bello marks the conclusion of a glorious chapter in Nigeria’s religious history, but his contributions to the propagation of Islam will continue to inspire generations to come.
