Ijesaland is in mourning as the monarch, the Owa Obokun, Oba Adekunle Gabriel Aromolaran, passed away yesterday at the age of 87.
The monarch, who reigned for 42 years, died at the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital in Ile-Ife, where he was being treated for an undisclosed ailment.
Tension had gripped the palace since yesterday morning as security operatives, including DSS and police personnel, took control of the entrance, signaling the possibility of a monumental happening at the palace. Family members were seen removing the late king’s personal belongings, confirming the worst fears of the community.
Chief Olayinka Fasuyi, Asiwaju of Ijesaland, today officially confirmed the monarch’s demise, describing it as the end of an era. Oba Aromolaran ascended to the throne in February 1982 and ruled for over four decades, leaving behind a legacy that will be deeply missed.
The community is expected to begin mourning and burial preparations in the coming days. Further details will be provided as more information becomes available.
