Abeokuta, Ogun State — In a major political development that may shape the future of Ogun State’s 2027 governorship race, Governor Dapo Abiodun has officially unveiled Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as the consensus governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 election.
The announcement, which follows weeks of high-level consultations and strategic engagements within the ruling party, signals a decisive move by the APC leadership to present what it described as a “strong, united, and credible” flag bearer ahead of the crucial contest. The development was also reported by national media on Monday and Tuesday, underscoring its significance in Ogun’s evolving political landscape.
Governor Abiodun, in a statement released to party faithful and stakeholders, said the decision emerged from extensive consultations across the party’s leadership structure and with key political actors in Ogun West. According to him, the consensus reflects a collective resolve to finally ensure that Ogun West produces the next governor of the state, thereby breaking what many in the district have long described as a historical political jinx.
In a remarkable show of unity, leading aspirants from Ogun West, including Hon. Gboyega Nasir Isiaka and Rt. Hon. Isiaq Abiodun Akinlade, were said to have thrown their weight behind Senator Adeola’s candidacy. Governor Abiodun praised their statesmanship, noting that their support demonstrates an uncommon commitment to the broader interest of the district and the APC.
“Our choice was based on competence, capacity, and alignment with our vision for Ogun State,” the governor said, emphasizing that Senator Adeola possesses the leadership credentials and political reach required to consolidate the gains of the present administration.
