Ibadan, Oyo State – In a historic ceremony held today at the Labosinde compound, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin has been crowned the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland. The event was attended by dignitaries from across the country, including Governor Seyi Makinde, who performed the coronation rites.
According to traditional protocol, the Labosinde compound is the designated location for the coronation of any Olubadan of Ibadanland, and today’s ceremony was no exception. The compound was filled to capacity as prominent figures gathered to witness the historic event.
In attendance were notable personalities such as former Oyo State Governor and member of the Olubadan-in-Council, Rashidi Ladoja; the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi; the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar; and former Senate Leader, Teslim Folarin, among others.
Governor Seyi Makinde, in his remarks, hailed the new Olubadan as a worthy leader and custodian of Ibadan’s rich cultural heritage. He pledged his administration’s support for the monarch’s reign, promising to work together to promote peace, prosperity, and development in Ibadanland.
The coronation ceremony was steeped in tradition and pageantry, with various cultural performances and rituals marking the occasion. Oba Olakulehin, resplendent in his royal regalia, accepted the mantle of leadership with dignity and grace.
This development marks a new chapter in the history of Ibadanland, and the people of the ancient city are expected to come together to celebrate and honor their new monarch in the days ahead.
