Accra – Reports emerging from Accra indicate that former First Lady of Ghana, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, has passed away.
Though official confirmation from the family is still awaited, multiple media outlets in Ghana have reported the death of the prominent political figure and wife of the late former President Jerry John Rawlings.
Nana Konadu, who was founder and leader of the National Democratic Party (NDP), was a central figure in Ghanaian politics for decades and a strong advocate for women’s empowerment across Africa.
She served as First Lady from 1981 to 2001 during her husband’s tenure as Head of State and later as President. Known for her charisma and influence, she also founded the 31st December Women’s Movement, which championed women’s rights, education, and economic empowerment throughout Ghana.
As of the time of filing this report, details surrounding her death — including the cause and place — remain unclear. However, tributes have already begun pouring in on social media, with political leaders, supporters, and admirers describing her as “a trailblazer,” “a mother of modern Ghanaian feminism,” and “an icon of courage.”
