The Benin Traditional Council has declared social media influencer Habeeb Hamzat Adelaja, popularly known as Peller, wanted over an alleged unauthorised visit to the Benin Palace.
The council said the incident, which occurred on March 6, 2026, involved the influencer gaining access to the sacred palace premises without approval, describing the act as a serious breach of protocol.
In a statement issued by its Secretary, Frank Irabor, the council condemned the incident, stressing that the palace is a spiritual and cultural institution governed by longstanding traditions and not a venue for casual visits or content creation.
According to the statement, the presence of the influencer and his entourage disrupted activities within the palace and brought embarrassment to the institution and the Benin people.
Following a preliminary investigation, the council announced disciplinary actions against individuals linked to the incident. A chief allegedly connected to the breach has been suspended indefinitely, while a staff member identified as Omuemu has been detained by the police and charged to court for aiding the unauthorised entry.
The council also disclosed that a queen who appeared in the footage is undergoing disciplinary proceedings, which could lead to her removal from the palace in line with traditional practices.
It further revealed that the influencer had been invited to appear before a panel of chiefs to explain his actions but failed to honour the invitation.
The council has now directed him to present himself immediately and issue an unreserved written apology, warning that failure to comply may result in legal action.
Reaffirming its role as custodian of Benin customs and traditions, the council assured the public that measures have been put in place to prevent a recurrence and to preserve the sanctity and dignity of the palace.
