The centre was established in 1990 to serve as biodiversity conservation icon and environment education centre. The facility was built by the Chevron Corporation for the Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF), as a reserved sanctuary for the rich flora and fauna of the Lekki Peninsula. The company has since provided annual funding for the management of the centre. Bangladeshi Security forces foiled a hijack attempt on flight BG147 by a 25-year-old man on Sunday. All passengers on board the Bangladesh Biman plane which was bound for Dubai from Dhaka plane are safe. “We have successfully rescued everyone,” said Air Vice Marshall Mofid, after security forces stormed the plane and arrested the man. Mofid told reporters that the hijacker claimed he had a pistol. Atiku Abubakar, the Presidential Candidate of the PDP, has suffered defeat in the hands of Muhammadu Buhari, the Presidential Candidate of the APC. Wild jubilation broke out following the announcement that Mr Buhari scored 186 votes to defeat Atiku Abubakar, who got 167 votes. Atiku loyalists have reacted to the results, saying the unit has been historically won by Mr Buhari. The results from Atiku’s polling unit are amongst some of the early returns trickling in from across the country in today’s presidential and federal parliamentary elections. Buhari also overwhelmingly won his polling unit in Daura, Katsina State.
