The Founder and President of Atiba University, Oyo State, Prof. James Ojebode, has criticised the alleged refusal of some federal universities to accept the recently released National Examinations Council (NECO) results from admission seekers.
In a statement issued on Friday, Ojebode described the development as “unjust, discriminatory, and inconsistent with Nigeria’s commitment to inclusive and equitable education.”
He expressed concern that several candidates who had applied for university admission using “Awaiting Results” were later denied admission after the release of their NECO results.
“This practice amounts to the denial of the fundamental right to education and reflects administrative insensitivity,” Ojebode said.
The university founder urged the Federal Ministry of Education, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), and NECO to intervene urgently to ensure that all valid examination results are recognised during the ongoing admission process.
He further stressed that the rejection of NECO results undermines the credibility of the national examination system and discourages hardworking students who rely on the council’s assessments.
Ojebode called for a clear policy directive mandating all tertiary institutions to treat NECO and WAEC results with equal recognition in the spirit of fairness and national unity.
