Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, on Saturday received several condolence visits from political leaders, allies, and associates at his Abuja residence following the death of his mother, Hajiya Umma El-Rufai.
The deceased reportedly passed away on Friday in Cairo, Cairo, after a period of illness.
Among those who visited were former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, and former Minister of Transportation and ex-Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, alongside other associates, friends, and family members who came to sympathise with the former governor.
The condolence visits come amid heightened public attention following El-Rufai’s recent release from the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), where he had been held since February 18 over allegations of financial misconduct.
He was reportedly granted temporary release on compassionate grounds to enable him attend his mother’s burial.
Speaking during the visit, Amaechi questioned the circumstances surrounding El-Rufai’s detention, alleging that the charges against him were politically motivated. He also noted that the former governor’s release was carried out without a court order.
The Abuja residence of the former governor witnessed a steady stream of visitors throughout the day, as sympathisers gathered to pay their respects and offer support to the bereaved family.
