The Chairman of Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State, Hon. Bliss Alabi Oshionogue, has been impeached by members of the legislative arm of the council.
The impeachment was conveyed in a letter signed by seven councillors, effectively removing Oshionogue from office.
The development occurred a few hours after lawmakers in the Edo State House of Assembly were unable to hold a reconciliation or peace meeting between the council chairman and the seven aggrieved councillors.
Although the specific grounds for the impeachment were not immediately made public, the action followed escalating tensions between the chairman and members of the council legislature.
Further details surrounding the impeachment are expected to emerge.
