October 16, 2025; Lagos celebrates “Eko World Food Day” Fair. The grounds of Police College, Ikeja played host to all Local Governments and Local Council Development Areas of Lagos State who showcased the products of their various agricultural practices.
It was indeed a spectacular scenery at the grounds of the Fair seeing various displays of agricultural practices and products of Lagos grassroots. The world class mega city of Lagos still has a lot of “cultural steeze” to offer! As the city of aquatic splendor is mostly marine, the riverine communities of Apapa, Badagry, Agboyi, Lagos Island, Ikorodu, Epe and indeed all riverine local communities had aquatic products to display, while the hinterlands had crop foods to display. In a manner characteristics of Lagos, “Eko for show” played out at the World Food Day as attendees were treated to fascinating parades of each Local Council. The parade and displays were rated with the following results:
- BEST AGRO-PROCESSOR: Farm Junction Ltd.
- BEST FARM ESTATE: Erikorodo Ltd.
- BEST FARM SETTLEMENT: Ajara Farm Settlement
- BEST IN LIVESTOCK: Lagos Island Local Government
- BEST IN AGRICULTURE Apapa Local Government
- BEST COOPERATIVE SOCIETY: Ejalonibu Fishermen Cooperative
- BEST LOCAL COUNCIL: Yaba LCDA
- BEST FOOD CROP GROWER: Daddy Luis Tomato Growers Association, Badagry
The presentations were made by the representative of the Governor; Barr. Abimbola Salu-Hundeyin, Secretary to the State Government and Hon. Kehinde Olaide Joseph, Chairman House Committee on Agriculture.
The Governor of Lagos Babajide Olusola Sanwoolu though represented at the occasion showed his leadership qualities in the organization of the event, while the commissioner for Agriculture and Food Systems; Hon. Ruth Abisola Olusanya showed utmost dexterity in the execution of the event.
The Agboyi-Ketu contingent gave a spirited fight at the foods display contest. On display they had various Fish species caught in their natural habitat at the Agboyi Creek, Poultry Products, bunches of Plantain and Banana, Processed Snacks like Kulikuli, Exotic Fruits Such as Apple, Citrus and Grapevine Fruits, etc. all from local farms of Agboyi-Ketu. The H.O.D. Agriculture Mrs. Abiola Osisanya thanked the Chairman Hon. Adetola Abubakar for her support for Agboyi-Ketu contingent at this year’s edition of World Food Day. The very experienced administrator on agricultural matters wants Agboyi-Ketu to be the very best in the following editions of the World Food Day and she already has ideas brewing to that effect.
Hon. Adetola Abubakar in her characteristic manner stormed the grounds of the event to support her contingent at the World Food Day. The Agboyi-Ketu team were energized and proud of their show of agricultural successes. The winners in the various categories were in celebration mood, but Agboyi-Ketu team held their shoulders high still knowing they have the potentials to be the best next time!
