November 13, 2025, history was made as Hon. Muibi Alade Folawiyo; Executive Chairman of Lagos Island East Local Council Development Area commissioned 10 landmark projects in one fell swoop!
The award-winning Council Chairman has reiterated why he was ranked the best Local Government Chairman in Nigeria in 2025. Folawiyo on this historic day invited the crème-de-la-crème of Lagos to join the Governor in commissioning ten laudable projects! During his speech, Hon. Muibi Folawiyo reeled out the projects that his administration has executed for commissioning. In the course of his recognition of the Governor, party leaders, community leaders and other dignitaries, he didn’t forget to mention the efforts of Engr. Mrs. Oluide Feyi; the former Council Engineer of the Lagos East LCDA who articulated the idea of remodeling the premises of the Council Headquarters into the magnificent edifices we have today. Her technical vision and sagacity was key to the execution of the projects being commissioned. Engr. Mrs. Oluide has since been posted to Ajeromi-Ifelodun LGA to continue her professional service to the State there.
In the course of the commissioning celebrations, UNICEF was on ground to launch their e-birth registration programme. The UNICEF representative asserted that any child not registered is not accounted for and therefore denied his/her legal representation in society. She admonishes all stakeholders to integrate child birth registration into immunizations, medical treatments, school registrations, etc. Traditional and religious leaders are also enjoined to get involved in sensitizing their people.
When Mr. Governor mounted the podium, the atmosphere went electrifying as the Lagos Island East community was receiving their very own “omo adugbo”! Mr. Bababjide Olusola Sanwoolu acknowledged every single notable personality at the occasion, including the Chairman of Agboyi-Ketu LCDA; Hon. Adetola Abubakar. During his speech, the League of 57 Chairmen of LGAs and LCDAs popularly known as “Conference 57”, led by Hon. Sesan Olowa all stepped out in support of one of their own in response to the Governor’s call. The dazzling and ever articulate Governor of Lagos highlighted in details all the projects for commissioning. Each of them named after illustrious sons and daughters of Lagos Island East. They include:
Council Secretariat Complex: Babajide Olusola Sanwoolu Administrative Block. An ultramodern 4-floor edifice with elevators, housing 52 office suites, built in honour of the indefatigable Governor of Lagos State.
Housing Estate: Prince Tajudeen Olushi Island Golden Court at Sura, built to honour one of the founding members of the GAC (Governor’s Advisory Council)
Shopping Mall: Sen. Oluremi Tinubu Mall on Adeniji Adele Road built in honour of the mother of the nation for her passionate advocacy for women empowerment and youth development in Nigeria. The ultra-modern commercial hub stands complementary to remodeled Marcey Hospital currently under construction by the State Government.
Legislative Chambers: Razak Folorunso Balogun Legislative Building built in honour of a veteran legislator from the foundation of the Nigerian State and founding member of the GAC.
Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Agency – Lagos East Base; built to provide office accommodation and logistics support for the Neighbourhood Security outfit.
Event Hall: Muftau Olanrewaju Kadiku Event Hall built in honour of the pioneering Chairman of Lagos East.
Chapel: Chief Sanya Florentino Kolajo Chapel; a place of worship for the Christian community in Lagos East built in honour of a true son of the Brazillian Quarters of Lagos Island.
Mosque: Alhaja Ogunbambi Abisogun Mosque built as a worship centre for the muslim community of Lagos East.
Customary Court: Barr. Hakeem Oladapo Giwa Customary court in honour of a legal advocate and political icon.
Renovated Zapass Building: Finally, Mopelola House; the iconic old administrative building of Lagos Island Local Government; Zapass Building was preserved but renovated to blend the ancient edifice with modern aesthetics and facilities. It was named in honour of Alhaja Lateefat Mopelola Okunnu, the First Female Deputy Governor of Lagos State and icon of female political leadership in Nigeria.
