As our children wind up their summer vacations and get ready to resume the brand new 2025/2026 academic session, parents all over the nation – irrespective of their financial status – are on their toes as they must provide school fees, books and every resource required to prepare their wards for school!
But for many-a-child of Agboyi-Ketu LCDA of Lagos, their parents just got a great relief through the Local Council’s BACK-TO-SCHOOL-BOOST! Hon. Adetola Adunni Abubakar is the newly elected Chairman of the Agboyi-Ketu Local Council Development Area as a candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the recently concluded LGA/LCDA elections in Lagos State. The elegant and dutiful LCDA Chairman holds the ace to a very bright and promising Agboyi-Ketu LCDA. And she has sure hit the ground running in a grand style!

In a remarkable and well-planned event with enough pageantry, this visionary Council Chairman gathered 1,000 school children across all classes from 10 Government-owned Primary Schools within the LCDA and she does the unimaginable for them! The grand event took place on Thursday September 18, 2025 at the Local Council Headquarters on Agboyi Road. In attendance were all the Royal Fathers/Traditional Rulers of the constituent communities, Political heavyweights in the State, Head teachers of the selected schools and Parents. Each child was gifted with a package laden with school stationeries and their parents were each handed an envelope containing some money (wait for it)…

When the Chairman had a prior conversation with me before this event, she noted that the Council decided to prepare their children for school by providing resources required for resumption. School Books, School Bags, School Shoes, Stationeries, etc. Her administration decided to monetize the Back-to-School gifts for a good reason… What if they provide a school bag for a child whose dire need is the school uniform? Or deliver adequate books to a child who is hungry and could not concentrate to learn?! With this conversation, I was thinking in my head that the cash to be delivered to the parents should be around N10,000 for each school child. But alas! What Hon. Abubakar and her team did for these 1,000 children of Agboyi-Ketu was to me a total package! They call it a Back-to-School Boost, I call it the Back-to-School BLAST! “ó pò ooo!!”

Some parents got as much as N100,000! Parents were handed envelopes containing cash ranging from N25,000 to N100,000. The number of school children granted was 1,000 while their parents were about 500 in number. The intriguing part of this Back-to-School grant is that it was provided per child. So, their parents received N25,000, N50,000, up to N100,000 per family depending on how many children were eligible for the grant from the given family. With a hundred thousand naira, you did not give that family just any random school item for each child; you have given them a good number of these needed items! With that sum, you could buy School Shoes, School Bags, some Textbooks and perhaps Stationeries and yet have some money left to put food on the table! The point is Hon. Adetola Abubakar really rolled out huge resources to cater for the school resumption necessities of her children in the local communities of Agboyi-Ketu LCDA. These children are happy to go to school bright and ready!

The story of Agboyi-Ketu Back-to-School Boost highlights the blessedness of electing women into public office. They are mothers. They feel the heartbeat of the family. In their administrative work in government, they see not just numbers. They see children. They see mothers. They see fathers. They see the youth. They see vulnerable elderlies. They see family! Hon. Adetola Abubakar holds the ace to this family-centric concept in governance and has begun to justify her election right from the start!
