Pupils and teachers who were abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State have regained their freedom following efforts by Nigerian security agencies.
The development was announced on Friday by the Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, in a post shared on his official X account.
Confirming the successful rescue, Onanuga stated that all the kidnapped pupils and teachers had been freed through coordinated security operations.
“Finally, all the kidnapped pupils and teachers in Oriire, Oyo have been rescued by our security agencies,” he wrote.
He further disclosed that one of the rescued teachers conveyed a message of appreciation to President Tinubu and the security agencies for securing their release.
The rescue marks the end of an anxious period for the victims’ families and the Oyo State community, following the abduction that drew widespread concern and renewed calls for stronger security measures to protect schools and communities.
As of the time of filing this report, authorities had not disclosed details of the rescue operation, including whether any suspects were arrested or if any ransom was paid before the victims regained their freedom.
Security agencies are expected to provide further updates on the operation as investigations continue.
