The sad news of the death of J.K Braimah, one of closest associates of the Late Afrobeat Legend has been announced. Jimoh Kombi Aliased J.K was born in Lagos in the year 1935, a consummate guitarist and general music enthusiast, J.K Braimah met Abami Eda (Fela) in 1954 – from thereon, their enduring friendship and musical allies was formed.
J.K Braimah was a leading guitarist for the Cool Cats Highlife Band led by Sir (Dr.) Victor Olaiya. He (J.K) introduced his friend (Fela) to the leading Lagos highlife band – Cool Cats Band. Fela soon joined the band as a trumpeter and vocalist for a period of time.
Towards the end of the 50s, the duo of J.K Braimah and Fela left for England where they both formed the Highlife Rakers alongside pianist Wole Bucknor in the year 1959. The band was shortlived and Fela opted out to form the Koola Lobitos.
However, there was no love lost between these two musical comrades, a friendship that lasted their both lives.
