Victims abducted during the deadly attack on Woro community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State have arrived in Ilorin following their rescue after spending several months in captivity.
The victims were received late Thursday at the Nigerian Army’s 2 Division, Sobi Barracks, Ilorin, after being transported from neighbouring Niger State, where they regained their freedom following sustained military and security operations.
The victims were kidnapped earlier this year when armed bandits invaded Woro community, killing several residents and abducting many others in an attack that sparked widespread condemnation and prompted intensified efforts by security agencies to secure their release.
Following their arrival at the barracks, the rescued victims were moved to an undisclosed location, where they spent the night as security agencies commenced post rescue verification, documentation and support procedures.
The victims are expected to be formally received by Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, who has maintained close engagement with security agencies throughout the rescue operation.
Authorities described the successful rescue as a significant breakthrough in the months long effort to free those abducted, adding that ongoing processes are aimed at confirming the exact number of victims rescued and providing them with comprehensive medical care, psychological support and humanitarian assistance.
Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq had earlier disclosed that the rescued victims were receiving medical attention at a federal facility before being transferred to Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.
The victims were abducted during coordinated attacks on Woro and Nuku communities in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State in February. The attacks also saw the abduction of another 145 persons from neighbouring Niger State, prompting extensive security operations across both states.
