The (WAEC) has launched its Digital Certificate Services System, known as WAEC DigiCert, across its five member countries, enabling candidates to access and share their certificates electronically.
The announcement was made in a statement issued by Demianus Ojijeogu, Head of Public Affairs at WAEC Headquarters in Accra, Ghana, on behalf of the Registrar. The digital platform covers Gambia, Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria, and Sierra Leone.
According to Ojijeogu, the WAEC DigiCert platform is both mobile and web-based, designed to provide candidates and stakeholders with seamless access to digital versions of original WAEC certificates.
He explained that the system allows candidates to access, request, confirm, and securely share digital copies of their certificates with institutions and organizations worldwide.
Ojijeogu added that the platform also enables users to retrieve lost WAEC examination numbers while ensuring the authenticity of certificates. He noted that the system is secure and reliable, and is expected to significantly reduce administrative bottlenecks associated with manual certificate issuance and collection.
“The system is reliable and secured, and its authenticity is guaranteed while reducing administrative challenges tied to physical processing,” he stated.
WAEC assured that the introduction of DigiCert will not replace the printing and issuance of physical certificates. Candidates and stakeholders were encouraged to download the mobile application or visit WAEC’s official website and social media platforms for further information.
The rollout marks a significant step in the council’s digital transformation efforts, aimed at improving efficiency, accessibility, and global verification of academic credentials across West Africa.
