The Federal Government has commended the successful rescue of the remaining 130 pupils abducted from St. Mary’s Catholic School in Papiri, Niger State, describing the development as a moment of triumph and relief and a fitting end to the year.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, who confirmed that all 230 pupils abducted from the school have now regained their freedom, with none left in captivity.
According to the statement, the newly rescued pupils are being handed over to the Niger State Government and will subsequently be reunited with their families.
The Federal Government praised the security agencies involved in the operation, noting that the successful rescue reaffirmed the nation’s resolve to protect its citizens and ensure the safety of lives and property.
The government also expressed sympathy with the parents and guardians of the pupils over the trauma and anguish caused by the abduction, while wishing the families a smooth healing process, peaceful reunions and a joyful festive season.
TVC News had earlier reported that the Bishop of the Kontagora Diocese and Proprietor of St. Mary’s Schools, Most Rev. Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, confirmed that the rescued pupils were expected to arrive in Minna, Niger State, on Monday.
The Bishop provided the update on Sunday, following widespread reports that the remaining 130 students, abducted in November, had finally been released, bringing an end to weeks of uncertainty and anxiety for their families and the nation.
