The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I, has installed Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as the Okanlomo of Yorubaland.
The traditional investiture ceremony was held on Sunday in the ancient town of Oyo, where a former Governor of Zamfara State, Senator Abubakar Yari, was also conferred with the title of Obaloyin of Yorubaland.
The event drew eminent personalities and top political figures from across the country, who described the installations as historic and symbolic of unity across regions. Speakers at the ceremony urged the newly installed title holders to use their positions to promote peace, national cohesion, and development, while contributing meaningfully to Nigeria’s progress.
The Alaafin had earlier announced plans for the conferment of the chieftaincy titles. In a statement issued on December 17 by his Director of Media and Publicity, Mr Bode Durojaiye, it was disclosed that Senator Yari would be honoured with the title of Obaloyin of Yorubaland, while Seyi Tinubu would receive the Okanlomo of Yorubaland title.
The installations mark another significant cultural event in Oyo, reinforcing the traditional institution’s role in fostering unity and cooperation across Nigeria’s diverse political and ethnic landscape.
