There are emerging reports that the remaining pupils abducted from St. Mary’s Catholic Primary and Secondary School, Papiri, in Niger State, have regained their freedom, marking a major breakthrough in ongoing rescue efforts.
As of the time of filing this report, the development is yet to receive official confirmation from the Niger State Government, security agencies, the school authorities or the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN).
The pupils were abducted during an attack on the Catholic school in Papiri, an incident that sparked widespread outrage and concern across the country. Two weeks ago, about 100 of the kidnapped children were released and reunited with their families, raising hopes for the freedom of the remaining victims.
In addition to those earlier released, about 50 pupils were reported to have escaped from captivity at different times and have since been reunited with their parents.
With the latest reports suggesting the release of the final batch of the abducted pupils, families and residents are cautiously optimistic, while awaiting official confirmation from relevant authorities.
TVC News recalls that there had been earlier reports indicating that the Federal Government had secured the release of some of the schoolchildren, although those claims were not immediately verified by the Niger State Government, CAN leadership or the school management.
The situation is still being closely monitored, and updates will be provided as soon as there is an official announcement confirming the release.
