The House of Representatives has constituted a seven-man committee to investigate allegations of alterations in the gazetted copies of four tax laws.
The Speaker of the House, Tajudeen Abbas, announced the constitution of the panel following a matter of privilege raised during Wednesday’s plenary session by a lawmaker from Sokoto State, Abdusammad Dasuki. Dasuki had alleged that the tax laws currently in circulation differ from the versions passed by the National Assembly and assented to by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
In response, the House resolved to probe the claims and mandated the committee to ascertain the authenticity of the gazetted tax acts and determine whether any unauthorized changes were made.
The committee is chaired by a lawmaker from Borno State, Mukhtar Betara. Other members include Ahmed Idris, Sada Soli, James Faleke, Babajimi Benson, Iduma Ugariwey and Frederick Agbedi.
The panel has been given one week to carry out its assignment and submit its findings to the House for further consideration.
