Flight operations are ongoing at the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, Owerri, following a crash landing involving a chartered Cessna 172 aircraft on Tuesday evening.
Four crew members onboard the aircraft, which was en route from Kaduna to Port Harcourt, are reported to be in stable condition. The Police Public Relations Officer of the Airport Command, Lagos, ASP Mohammed Adeola, confirmed their health status in a telephone interview with TVC News.
According to him, the victims are currently receiving medical care at the Air Force Hospital. He disclosed that two of the crew members who were unconscious at the time of the incident have since been stabilised by medical personnel.
ASP Adeola added that the crew members would be discharged once doctors certify them medically fit, after which they would be reunited with their families.
The incident occurred at about 6:58 p.m. when the aircraft, with call sign ASR and registration number 5N-SKR, crash-landed at the threshold of Runway 17 at the Sam Mbakwe International Airport. The aircraft reportedly sustained varying degrees of damage.
A visit by TVC News to the airport showed that normal flight operations were continuing, as the situation was promptly brought under control by relevant authorities.
