The Sokoto State Government has approved the recruitment of 2,440 community health workers to strengthen primary healthcare delivery across the state’s 244 wards.
The large-scale recruitment, undertaken in partnership with the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHCDA), is aimed at addressing manpower shortages in Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) and improving access to essential medical services at the grassroots.
A statement issued on Monday by the Director General of Media and Publicity at the Government House, Abubakar Bawa, said the initiative aligns with the administration’s commitment to reducing unemployment and creating meaningful job opportunities for residents.
Bawa noted that the deployment of health workers will significantly enhance frontline medical services, especially in rural and semi-urban communities where manpower deficits have hindered effective healthcare delivery.
“This significant initiative is part of the present administration’s commitment to reducing unemployment, empowering citizens with meaningful job opportunities, and addressing the manpower needs within the health sector,” the statement read.
He added that details regarding the recruitment process and application guidelines will be released soon by the state recruitment committee.
The approval represents one of the most extensive health workforce engagements in Sokoto in recent years, and it is expected to contribute to improved maternal and child health outcomes, strengthened disease surveillance, and more effective community-level healthcare interventions.
