The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has released surveillance footage of the man suspected of fatally shooting conservative activist Charlie Kirk during an event at Utah Valley University on September 10.
The FBI’s Salt Lake City Field Office published the video on Friday, showing the suspect climbing onto a rooftop shortly before the shooting and then leaping off to escape after firing the deadly shots.
Investigators confirmed that a firearm and ammunition believed to have been used in the attack were later recovered in a wooded area near the university.
“Trace evidence collected from the rooftop included shoe impressions, a forearm imprint, and a palm print,” the FBI said in a statement. “Anyone with information should call 1-800-CALL-FBI or visit fbi.gov/utahvalleyshooting.”
The bureau also shared additional images of the person of interest, stressing that it is working closely with local law enforcement to bring the perpetrator to justice. A $100,000 reward has been offered for credible information leading to an arrest.
Kirk, 31, a close ally of former President Donald Trump and founder of the influential conservative youth group Turning Point USA, was killed while attending a university event.
Meanwhile, the FBI has urged caution online after two individuals were wrongly identified on social media as suspects in the case. The misidentified persons told AFP they feared retaliation as the manhunt intensified.
The shooting has sent shockwaves across the US conservative movement, with security agencies ramping up efforts to track down the gunman.
