The Benue State House of Assembly on Friday suspended four members accused of plotting to impeach the Speaker, Hyacinth Dajoh.
The suspended lawmakers are Alfred Aondoaver (Makurdi North), Shimawua Emmanuel (Vandeikya II), Cyril Ikong (Oju II), and Abu Umoru James (Apa).
According to reports, the legislators were alleged to have held a secret meeting at the Government House with the aim of removing the Speaker.
During plenary, the Majority Leader, Saater Tiseer, moved the motion for their suspension, noting that the move was an attempt to destabilise the Assembly despite a recent vote of confidence passed on both the Speaker and Governor Hyacinth Alia.
“On Wednesday, 20 August 2025, the House in the spirit of unity passed a vote of confidence in the House leadership and the Governor of Benue State. Concerned that barely three days after, Hon. Alfred Aondoaver and three others went behind to mobilise other members to cause chaos in the House,” Tiseer said.
The motion was adopted, and the four members were suspended for six months following deliberations presided over by Speaker Dajoh.
Meanwhile, the Assembly also confirmed four out of eight commissioner-nominees submitted by Governor Alia for screening.
