The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has attributed the fatal road accident that occurred at Mile 2 on Monday to reckless driving and indiscriminate passenger pickup by commercial bus operators.
According to a statement by LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, the crash happened when a speeding Toyota Highlander (APP 150 EY) lost control and rammed into a painted T4 commercial bus (KJA 328 XH) that was illegally parked by the roadside to pick up passengers.
The Highlander driver died instantly from the impact, while the bus driver, who had parked indiscriminately, escaped unhurt.
“Preliminary findings revealed that the tragedy was caused when the Highlander, while speeding, lost control and collided with great force into a commercial bus that was illegally stationed on the roadside,” Bakare-Oki said.
He noted that LASTMA officials swiftly secured the accident scene, recovered the victim’s body from the wreckage, and handed it over to officers of the Ojo Police Division, who later transferred the remains to the C-Niger Mortuary, Abule Ado, for preservation.
The agency also confirmed that traffic flow on the busy Mile 2 corridor was quickly restored, while the damaged vehicles were towed to the Ojo Police Division for further investigation.
Bakare-Oki expressed condolences to the deceased’s family, praying for strength and comfort during their time of grief.
