The Bariga Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Lagos State has renamed the popular ‘Charly Boy’ bus stop after renowned rapper and singer Olamide Adedeji, popularly known as Badoo, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to music and his roots in the Bariga community.
The announcement was made by outgoing Bariga LCDA Chairman, Kolade Alabi David, during a street renaming ceremony held to mark the end of his tenure in office on Friday. Alabi said the renaming initiative aimed to celebrate sons and daughters of the soil who have positively projected the community on the global stage through their talents and achievements.
“As an administration, we took our time to reflect on our people who have put the name of our local council on the global map through their respective God-given talents,” Alabi stated. “Today, we officially rename several streets in honour of their legacies.”
Olamide, one of Nigeria’s most successful music stars, is widely known for blending indigenous rap with mainstream sounds and has consistently represented his Bariga roots in his music and public engagements.
In addition to Olamide, other notable personalities from music, politics, and sports were also honoured with streets renamed after them:
- Ilaje Road → King Sunny Ade Road
- Bariga Road → Bola Ahmed Tinubu Way
- Community Road, Akoka → Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu Road
- Ajidagan Street → Olamide Adedeji (Badoo) Street
- Ifeanyi Street → Abolore Akande (9ice) Street
- Ayodele Street, Ladi-Lak → Tony Tetuila Street
- Ilojo Crescent, Obanikoro → Bukayo Saka Street
The move follows a similar exercise by the Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Area, which recently renamed 24 streets after prominent Nigerians.
Alabi praised the honorees for bringing pride to their community and inspiring the younger generation through music, public service, and sports.
The renaming of the ‘Charly Boy’ bus stop to Olamide Bus Stop has since generated excitement across Bariga and beyond, especially among music fans and residents who view the recognition as long overdue for one of the city’s most celebrated exports.
A video clip of the renaming ceremony has since gone viral on social media, with many lauding the LCDA for recognizing local icons.
