A senior figure in the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Folu Adeboye, has alleged that a former pastor of the church absconded with $8,000 in mission funds, abandoned his wife, and resettled in the United States, where he reportedly remarried.
Pastor Folu, wife of the General Overseer, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, made the shocking revelation during a ministration at a recent men’s fellowship programme hosted by the church. A video of her speech has since gone viral, sparking intense reactions within and outside church circles.
According to her, the unnamed pastor, who hails from Ekiti State, was formerly posted to Cape Town, South Africa, where he oversaw an RCCG parish. She recounted that during a scheduled missionary visit to the city, she was stunned to discover that the church service was being held in a makeshift location inside a local eatery.
“While I was ministering, a woman walked in and started removing the chairs,” Pastor Folu recounted, describing the embarrassment of having the church service abruptly ended due to time restrictions at the rented venue.
Moved by the situation, members of the congregation donated $8,000 to support the purchase of a permanent church facility. However, shortly after receiving the funds, the pastor allegedly disappeared, leaving behind his wife and resurfacing later in the United States, where he is said to have remarried.
The development has raised serious concerns about accountability and oversight within the global missionary structure of the RCCG. While Pastor Folu did not disclose the pastor’s name, her account has stirred discussions about the need for transparency and deeper vetting in ministry assignments abroad.
As of the time of this report, RCCG headquarters has not issued an official statement regarding the matter.
