Lagos, July 10, 2025 — The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has filed criminal charges against gospel music executive Ezekiel Thankgod, popularly known as Eezee Tee, over the alleged misappropriation of $443,371 belonging to renowned gospel artistes Mercy Chinwo and Judith Kanayo, popularly known as Judikay.
Thankgod, the founder of Eezee Global Concepts and former manager of both artistes, is facing a three-count charge alongside his record label before the Lagos State Special Offences Court sitting in Ikeja.
The charges, filed under Suit No. ID/25810c/25, were brought by a team of EFCC prosecutors led by Rotimi Oyedepo (SAN), Bilikisu Buhari-Bala, and Sulaiman I. Sulaiman.
According to the EFCC, the alleged offences occurred in 2023 and involved the unlawful diversion of funds generated through musical performances, digital royalties, and brand engagements meant for Chinwo and Kanayo.
The anti-graft agency accused Thankgod of criminal breach of trust, conversion of funds, and fraudulent misappropriation of earnings totalling over $443,000, which were allegedly used for personal enrichment.
The case is expected to come up for arraignment in the coming days, with both the defendant and his company summoned to appear before the court.
The development has sparked interest across the Nigerian music industry, particularly within the gospel music scene, where both Mercy Chinwo and Judikay are regarded as leading voices with large followings.
Neither Chinwo nor Kanayo has issued a public statement regarding the charges as of the time of filing this report.
