Abuja | July 2, 2025 — Gombe State has emerged as the fourth-best performing state in Nigeria in the latest national ranking of digital maturity in tax administration, reaffirming its growing reputation as one of the country’s most reform-oriented subnational governments.
The ranking was announced on Wednesday during a high-level Validation Workshop on Digital Public Infrastructure and the Intelligence Revenue Authority Index Tools, organised by the Nigeria Governors’ Forum in collaboration with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, in Abuja.
According to the report, Gombe scored an impressive 80.6 per cent, placing it among the top five states in Nigeria with the highest digital capabilities in tax administration. Other top performers include Bayelsa, Borno, Kano, and Delta, each also scoring above 80 per cent.
A press statement issued by the Director-General of Press Affairs at the Gombe Government House, Ismaila Uba Misilli, noted that the ranking assessed all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory across several digital infrastructure and tax efficiency indicators.
The evaluation measured performance based on digital onboarding of taxpayers, integration with national identity and electronic payment systems, automation of compliance monitoring, data security, advanced analytics, and the digital proficiency of tax personnel.
Aisha Adamu, Executive Chairman of the Gombe State Internal Revenue Service, represented the state at the event. Under her leadership, the state’s revenue service has undergone major transformation, prioritising digitisation, transparency, and operational excellence.
Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has consistently championed reforms aimed at modernising governance and boosting internally generated revenue (IGR), and this latest ranking is seen as a strong endorsement of the administration’s digital governance agenda.
