Hyacinth Alia, Governor of Benue State, has directed all political appointees under his administration who intend to contest in the 2027 general elections to resign their positions on or before March 30.
The directive was communicated in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Tersoo Kula, and released to journalists in Makurdi on Friday.
The governor said the move is aimed at sustaining the pace of development across the state, stressing that governance must not be slowed by political ambitions. He noted that early resignations would enable him to promptly appoint replacements and ensure continuity in service delivery.
Alia reiterated his commitment to transforming Benue, urging citizens to support his administration’s efforts to reposition the state.
He pointed to ongoing infrastructure works and improvements in the civil service as indicators of progress, insisting that his focus remains on fulfilling the mandate given to him by the people.
According to him, his administration is driven by a clear vision to improve the welfare of residents and reshape the state’s narrative positively, adding that no distraction would derail his development agenda
