President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has revealed that he deliberately chose not to watch the final match of the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), citing concerns over his health.
Speaking on Monday at the Presidential Villa during a reception held in honour of the victorious Super Falcons, Tinubu said the tension of the high-stakes game was too intense for him to handle.
“I didn’t want to watch the match initially because I didn’t want high blood pressure,” the President said with a chuckle. “My wife was cooking my food in the kitchen and suddenly rushed out to tell me we had won.”
The Nigerian women’s national team clinched a historic 12th WAFCON title after defeating rivals South Africa in a dramatic final. The victory further cemented the Super Falcons’ dominance in African women’s football.
President Tinubu lauded the team for their resilience, skill, and patriotism, assuring them of continued support from his administration.
The lighthearted moment underscored the emotional connection many Nigerians, including the President, have with the Super Falcons and their remarkable achievement on the continental stage.
