Troops of the Joint Task Force under Operation FANSAN YAMMA have neutralised three notorious terrorist kingpins in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State, in a major breakthrough in the fight against insurgency in the North West.
The operation, which was conducted on Friday, July 25, was a carefully planned ambush executed between Mallamawa and Mazau villages in the Tsamaye/Mai Lalle axis.
Military sources confirmed that the terrorists—identified as Kachalla Nagomma, Gurmu, and Ali Yar Daribiyar—were intercepted while attempting to extort ransom and levies from residents. Troops recovered three AK-47 rifles with loaded magazines and a motorcycle from the scene.
Communities across Mai Lalle, Tsamaye, Rimaye, and neighbouring areas in Sabon Birni and Goronyo LGAs erupted in jubilation following news of the terrorists’ deaths. Locals, long subjected to harassment, killings, and extortion, expressed relief and renewed trust in the security forces.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA, which focuses on restoring peace and order across the North West and parts of the North Central region, has intensified counter-terrorism operations in recent weeks.
In a statement on Saturday, Captain David Adewusi, Media Information Officer of the operation, praised the successful mission and urged the public to support military efforts by providing timely and credible intelligence.
“The Joint Task Force remains unwavering in its commitment to defeating terrorism and restoring lasting peace to all affected communities,” Adewusi said.
