Awka, April 29, 2025 — Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has called for greater collaboration among traditional rulers in the South-East, stressing that unity and cooperation are vital for the region’s sustainable development and cultural preservation.
Soludo made the call on Tuesday during a meeting of the South-East Traditional Rulers’ Council held in Awka. The gathering was convened to foster unity among monarchs and strengthen regional development efforts.
Addressing the royal fathers, Governor Soludo underscored the importance of partnership among key stakeholders, including traditional institutions, in shaping a prosperous future for the region.
“As governors of the South-East, we are working closely together, and so far, so good,” he said. “We urge traditional rulers and other community leaders to collaborate; your combined efforts could yield significant progress.”
Soludo emphasized the need to embrace the region’s cultural diversity while recognising the strength in unity. He also highlighted the unifying role of the Igbo language and called for a renewed commitment to preserving the values that have historically defined Igbo society.
“The Igbo land I knew as a child is no longer the same,” he lamented. “Foundational values and cultural practices are fading. It’s time for our traditional rulers to reclaim their pivotal roles in society and help restore our homeland.”
He further expressed concern about the erosion of societal norms, including the glorification of ill-gotten wealth, urging a return to celebrating hard work, enterprise, and integrity.
“A society becomes what it celebrates,” the governor noted. “We must rekindle pride in our heritage and industrious spirit.”
In his remarks, Chairman of the South-East Traditional Rulers’ Council, Dr E.C. Okeke, commended Governor Soludo’s leadership, praising his efforts to promote development in Anambra and the broader South-East region.
“You are a good governor, doing well in all ramifications,” Okeke said. “We commend your initiatives and your unwavering commitment to the welfare of the people.”
