29 April 2025, Abeokuta — Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has applauded Remo Stars Football Club for clinching their first-ever Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) title, describing the feat as a historic moment for the state and a testament to the team’s resilience and determination.
Remo Stars secured the 2024/2025 NPFL championship with a narrow 1-0 win over Niger Tornadoes on Sunday, a victory that not only earned them the league crown but also a place in the CAF Champions League.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by his Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, Governor Abiodun said the team’s success reflected the “profound traits” of Ogun State and reinforced the state’s reputation for excellence across various fields.
“The age-long perseverance and consistency of Remo Stars have finally paid off at the national level, to the admiration of all Nigerians, including our dear President, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” the governor said.
Governor Abiodun also highlighted the significance of the club’s achievement as the first privately-owned team to win the NPFL title since 1996, calling it a milestone that underscores the strength of Ogun’s youth and sports development policies.
He praised the players, coaching crew, and management for their unwavering dedication and called on other local football clubs to emulate the Remo Stars’ commitment to excellence.
“This victory is a clear reflection of our all-inclusive policy of transformation, as encapsulated in our ISEYA development agenda,” the governor added.
Remo Stars, founded in 2010, earned promotion to the NPFL in 2021 and have since been one of the most consistent performers in the league.
