Mrs. Hajiya Hauwa’u Adamu, the mother of renowned Hausa musician Dauda Adamu, popularly known as Rarara, has been released from captivity. The musician announced her release via his verified Instagram handle on Wednesday morning. However, he did not disclose whether any ransom was paid to the kidnappers.
The 75-year-old woman was abducted in late June by suspected terrorists in Katsina State. According to a source close to the family, the kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of N1 billion, later reducing it to N900 million after negotiations with the family.
“The kidnappers called using a phone they had taken from a woman when they abducted Hajiya. They initially demanded N1 billion but reduced it to N900 million after brief negotiations,” the source said. “They insisted on dealing directly with Rarara, who was ill at the time, but eventually agreed to negotiate with another family member. They confirmed that Hajiya was in good condition and would be released upon payment.”
The Katsina State Police Command had earlier confirmed the arrest of two suspects linked to the abduction. In a statement issued last Friday, ASP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, the command’s spokesman, detailed the arrest and ongoing investigation.
“On Friday, June 28, 2024, at about 0130 hrs, suspected kidnappers invaded the residence of Hauwa’u Adamu, aged 75, in Kahutu village, Danja LGA, Katsina State, and kidnapped her,” the statement read. “The DPO Danja led a team of operatives to the scene. During the investigation, two suspects were arrested for questioning. Further developments will be communicated as the investigation proceeds.”
