It has been reported that a detachment of the Anti-riot squad of the Nigerian Police in Lagos has dispersed the protesters at the Gani Fawehimi Park in Ojota area of Lagos. This development comes on the heels of the stern warning issued a day before the planned protest in which the police noted that there won’t ‘’allow a repeat of the endSARS protest in Lagos.
According to eyewitness, the police stationed their patrol vehicles along the Ikorodu road axis of Lagos thereby debarring entrance of protesters from accessing the protest ground in Ojota. The sources stated that no less than 50 protesters donning red berets conveyed along the highway and chanting solidarity songs.
A top officer of the Nigerian Police Force, Commander of Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in the Lagos State Police Command, CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi, affirmed that the police were not opposed to the protest. He said:
“Everyone is entitled to protest but the protest must be within the law. “Everyone should go about his or her businesses. “We are going round Lagos. There is no way for hoodlums to operate,â€.
