The dramas and intrigues and, of course, a dose of national tragedy and near tragedy continued today at the Committee Room of the House of Representatives where alleged financial malfeasance by the Interim Management Committee of the NDDC is being investigated.

First came the resignation of the Reps Committee Chair, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, replaced by his Vice in Acting Capacity. Though this was not unexpected, it did not reduce the dramatic atmosphere. Then came the shocking collapse of the Acting MD of the NDDC while he was being grilled for what many have described as alleged monumental mismanagement of resources at the regional body.
The latest events, full of verbal brickbats, have sent the nation talking, especially the exchange between Niger Delta Minister Akpabio and some Committee Members. While some Nigerians described the fainting spell as mere gimmick and an attempt to detail the process or delay it, others were quite sympathetic as they saw the unfortunate event as a result of undue pressure on the NDDC management.

Meanwhile the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila has personally attended the committee session after today’s incident to clarify matters on the Committee Chair’s resignation and the collapse of the Acting MD. It remains to be seen what the next line of action in the probe would be. The Lagosian will bring you details as they unfold.
