Super Eagles forward Kelechi Iheanacho has celebrated his record-breaking scoring streak in Turkey by sharing a photograph of himself in traditional Turkish attire and adopting the nickname “Agabey”.
The 30-year-old striker posted the picture on Instagram after scoring twice and providing an assist in Bursaspor’s 3-0 victory over Muglaspor in the Turkish 1. Lig on Thursday.
“We go ball till eternity, Kelechi Agabey,” Iheanacho captioned the post.
“Agabey” is a Turkish term of respect that translates to “big brother” or “boss”.
The victory extended Iheanacho’s scoring streak to 10 consecutive league matches, making him the first player to achieve the feat in Turkish professional league football.
The former Manchester City and Leicester City striker has scored in every league appearance for Bursaspor since joining the club from Celtic. His run has extended to 11 consecutive matches when his appearance for Nigeria’s Super Eagles is included.
Since arriving at Bursaspor, Iheanacho has recorded 14 goals and three assists, establishing himself as a key contributor to the club’s promotion campaign.
Against Muglaspor, the forward initially thought he had opened the scoring in the 51st minute, but a video assistant referee (VAR) review ruled out the goal for offside.
He eventually broke the deadlock in the 58th minute before doubling his tally in the 79th minute. Four minutes later, he provided an assist for substitute Hüseyin Maldar to complete the 3-0 victory.
The result moved Bursaspor to second place in the Turkish 1. Lig standings with 22 points, two ahead of third-placed Iğdır FK and three behind leaders Kayserispor.
Bursaspor currently occupy one of the league’s two automatic promotion spots to the Turkish Süper Lig and are scheduled to host Pendikspor on Monday.
