President of the Borno South Youth Alliance, Samaila Kaigama, has made allegations regarding ransom payments linked to terrorist-related hostage negotiations, claiming that some individuals involved in the process complained they received less money than was reportedly released.
Kaigama made the claims during an interview on Channels Television while discussing the worsening security situation in Borno State. According to him, the alleged complaints came after ransom negotiations had been concluded.
He alleged that those involved informed him they received ₦1.9 billion, despite claims that ₦5 billion had been released for the ransom. According to Kaigama, they questioned the whereabouts of the remaining ₦3.1 billion.
«”They concluded the negotiations and received the ransom. Later, they complained that they got ₦1.9 billion, whereas ₦5 billion had been released. They asked, ‘Where is the remaining ₦3.1 billion?'” he said during the interview.»
Kaigama also raised additional concerns about the handling of ransom payments, although he did not present documentary evidence during the television appearance to support the allegations.
The interviewers repeatedly asked him whether he possessed evidence to substantiate his claims and whether he had reported the information to relevant security agencies responsible for investigating terrorism and kidnapping cases.
Responding, Kaigama stated that he is prepared to cooperate with the Federal Government and security authorities if officially invited, stressing that his intention is to contribute to efforts aimed at improving security and ensuring that any allegations are thoroughly investigated.
As of the time of filing this report, no Nigerian security agency or government official had publicly responded to the allegations, and the claims remain unverified.
