The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has dismissed as fraudulent several candidate lists currently circulating on social media, alleging that the documents were created by individuals seeking to create confusion within the party ahead of upcoming elections.
In a statement issued by the party’s National Secretary, Barrister Ikenna Alex-Morgan Enekweizu, the NDC clarified that the lists being shared for states including Imo, Abia, Anambra and others did not originate from the party’s national leadership.
The party stressed that all authentic candidate submissions had already been forwarded to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) through the official procedures stipulated by the Electoral Act.
According to the NDC, the unauthorized lists are part of a deliberate attempt to mislead party members, supporters and the general public while undermining the party’s internal democratic processes.
“The documents currently making the rounds are not recognized by the party and should be disregarded entirely,” the statement emphasized.
Party officials further alleged that political mischief-makers and individuals opposed to the growth of the NDC were behind the circulation of the disputed lists. They described the move as an effort to generate unnecessary distractions and sow discord among party faithful.
The NDC disclosed that investigations have commenced to uncover those responsible for the circulation of the documents and determine how the information found its way into the public domain.
Despite the development, the party reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening its structures nationwide and maintaining unity among members.
The leadership urged supporters across the country to remain calm, focused and loyal to the party’s objectives, assuring them that the NDC remains committed to building a credible political platform capable of addressing Nigeria’s socio-economic and governance challenges.
Political observers note that disputes over candidate lists often emerge during election seasons as parties seek to finalize nominations and prepare for electoral contests. However, the NDC insists that its official candidates remain those duly submitted to INEC and recognized by the party’s national headquarters.
The party called on members and stakeholders to rely only on official communications from its leadership and avoid spreading unverified information capable of causing confusion within its ranks.
