The Lagos State Government has announced an eight-week traffic diversion along Baale Animashaun Road in the Ifako-Ijaiye area as part of efforts to improve drainage infrastructure and enhance stormwater management within the state.
According to the government, the diversion will take effect from June 15, 2026, to facilitate the construction of a culvert designed to improve water discharge and reduce flooding in the area.
The project is expected to provide a permanent drainage outlet for stormwater from Adfarm Estate, Adson Street and neighbouring communities through a newly constructed culvert crossing Baale Animashaun Road.
Speaking on the development, the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, said the temporary closure of the affected section of the road was necessary to ensure the safe and efficient execution of the project.
Osiyemi explained that motorists travelling into Baale Animashaun Road from the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway would be required to use designated alternative routes throughout the construction period.
He said road users could access the area through Ijaiye Bus Stop Junction via Agbado-Ijaiye Road, popularly known as Post Office Road, before connecting to Alakuko Road and rejoining Baale Animashaun Road.
He added that motorists could also use Jendor Junction near Alakuko Junction and proceed through Alhaji Ganiyu Road to reconnect with the corridor.
Another diversion route, according to the commissioner, will take commuters through Ajegunle-Ilo Bus Stop Junction, Adetiba Street, Fagbeyiro Abayomi Street and Fola Azeez Street before linking back to Baale Animashaun Road.
Osiyemi stressed that access from the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway into Baale Animashaun Road would be completely restricted during the construction period.
“The construction work is scheduled to commence on June 15, 2026, and is expected to last for eight weeks. There will be no movement into Baale Animashaun Road from Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway as the road will be closed for the construction works,” he said.
The commissioner appealed to motorists to cooperate with traffic management personnel deployed to the area and comply with all traffic signs and diversion instructions to ensure smooth vehicular movement.
He reiterated the state government’s commitment to improving critical infrastructure and reducing the impact of flooding through strategic drainage interventions across Lagos.
