The Osi Balogun of Ibadanland, Oba Olubunmi Isioye-Dada, has passed away, bringing to an end a distinguished period of service within the traditional leadership structure of Ibadanland.
Sources close to the palace confirmed that the respected Ibadan High Chief died after a brief illness at his residence in Ibadan on Friday.
A palace source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, disclosed that members of the Omo Oye family, alongside other palace stakeholders, have begun gathering at the deceased chief’s residence following news of his passing.
Until his death, Oba Isioye-Dada occupied the revered position of Osi Balogun of Ibadanland, one of the highest-ranking chieftaincy titles within the Balogun line of the Olubadan succession system.
His death is expected to set in motion the traditional succession process within the Balogun line, leading to a number of elevations among chiefs on the hierarchy.
Among those expected to benefit from the impending adjustments is the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, who is likely to move from the position of Ekaarun Balogun to Ekerin Balogun, subject to the approval of the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja.
Similarly, Chief Akeem Adewoyin is expected to be elevated from Ekerin Balogun to the position of Asipa Balogun of Ibadanland as the traditional line of succession progresses.
Oba Isioye-Dada was widely respected for his contributions to the growth and preservation of Ibadan’s cultural heritage and traditional institutions. His passing has been received with sadness across Ibadanland, where he was regarded as a prominent custodian of tradition and community leader.
