The Kano State Police Command has apprehended six suspects in connection with Monday’s attack on the popular mobile phone market at Farm Centre in Kano.
The command confirmed the arrests in a statement issued on Tuesday by its Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna, quoting the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.
According to the statement, the incident occurred around 1:20 p.m. on April 27, 2026, following a distress call reporting that suspected ‘Yan Daba’ had mobilised for a clash. Patrol teams were immediately dispatched to the area.
“On arrival, officers encountered a violent confrontation between suspected thugs. During the unrest, an ambulance was vandalised, and attempts were made to extend the attack to other locations,” the statement said.
The police said operatives engaged the attackers, who initially retreated but later regrouped and launched an assault on officers using stones and other dangerous weapons. The officers, however, repelled the attack.
The hoodlums subsequently fled towards the Farm Centre Market, where they attempted to break into shops and loot goods before additional security reinforcements were deployed.
“Six suspects were arrested in the process, while others fled. Calm has since been restored in the affected area,” the statement added.
Bakori warned that the command would not tolerate acts of thuggery or any breach of public peace in the state, urging parents and guardians to caution their children against engaging in criminal activities.
He also commended the swift response and professionalism of officers from the Farm Centre Division and supporting teams, noting that their efforts prevented further damage and loss of property.
The police said investigations are ongoing to track down other fleeing suspects and identify those behind the attack.
Witnesses had earlier reported that the assailants stormed the market in broad daylight, attacking traders and customers while brandishing weapons, causing widespread panic.
